Games on the Go: The Best Gaming Laptops of Midyear 2016

What specs, brand or price consideration is tantamount to having the best experience when shopping for a gaming laptop, so here is a list of the best available in the market to aid gamers' choice.

Although it is a decade-old practice to simply assemble a desktop into a gaming rig, the next best option for anyone is to grab a laptop with decent specs and with sufficient muscle to handle the strain playing a 4K game can cause to the machine. After all, who would not want a machine that comes with a single warranty instead of several warranties for each PC part, just in case it is abused by 24/7 gaming wallop.

Unfortunately, a decent gaming-rig-on-the-go and flashy full HD graphics and built-in keyboard don't come cheap. Even for what gamers would call a "low-end" gaming laptop, the price will easily reach $1,500 and expect to double the price if the target outcome is a flawless frame rate when playing a 4K game.

Now the fortunate side is, the trickle-down technology marketing principle has also invaded the gaming laptops, causing lower-end to mid-range units to "inherit" qualities from high-end once there are new hardware developments being introduced.

Here is a glimpse of what gamers might want to consider when looking for a gaming laptop, regardless of the price, because most experienced techie will definitely agree that price doesn't guarantee the best specs. Sometimes, the manufacturer's name or brand is a huge reason for bloated prices.

Processor Zoom Zoom

Miami-based Origin PC will top the list if the processor speed is the foremost benchmark. Two models are specifically intended for gaming purposes, and these are the EON 15X and EON 17X with a 4.0 and 4.5 GHz processor speed, respectively. Although not as fast as the higher model 17X, the EON 15X boasts an 18G RAM that is double the capacity of the former. Both are sold at around $1,800 more or less in tech shops.

RAM-bo Jumbo

Random access memory or RAM or, simply termed, memory is also a huge consideration if you want to go fast, especially if the rig is to be used for multi-tasking (playing games while at the office, huh!). And in this arena, the Asus ROG G751JY-DH72X and Acer Predator 15 (G9-591-74KN) are sure winners. Both boast 32G memory within the same price tag of roughly $1,500.

Juice Life

Playing a game that is eating a lot of resources will also cause an automatic ultra-thirst for battery life. The best (and probably the only) choice for a longer-playing game addict is the Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-17. This beauty is sure to take you to almost a full-day work's worth of seven hours. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y700-17 sells for a little over $1,100.

Ultra-portability

The last every gamer should consider is the weight, but only one name can claim this arena. No other product to date can really own the word ultra-portable without much debate other than Razer Blade, which weighs a little over than 4 lb., that is less than two-thirds of the average gaming laptop weight! A great bonus for Razer Blade is the improved performance over its predecessor at a lower price of 2 grand US and vibrant 3,200-by-1,800-resolution touch display.
