Gamescom 2016 News and Schedule: 'Final Fantasy XV' and 'Star Trek: Bridge Crew' Reveals, Dates, Streaming and Tickets

Gamers and players from around the world gather for the 2016 edition of Gamescom in Cologne, Germany. The gaming event officially started on Tuesday for developers, media and stakeholders, but the public opening is set on Thursday, August 18. Gamescom 2016 will run until August 21.

Several game developers are having doubts in attending the gaming event over worries of duplicate presentations. However, gamers can still rely on big developers like Bethesda, Square Enix, EA and Blizzard to present big bangs for the 2017 gaming year. Ubisoft is also gracing the event along with some its best selling titles.

This edition of Gamescom will center on virtual reality technology, especially after Sony PlayStation announced earlier that they are releasing PS VR soon. Game titles for VR are also presented ahead of its release date.

Final Fantasy XV was an instant hit for developer Square Enix during the unveiling of several streams and screenshots. The general public will also have the opportunity to play and enjoy the limited demo version as the event unfolds. Enix is also bringing in anticipated titles such as Rise of the Tomb Raider, Mankind Divided, the installment of Deux Ex and Hitman.

Arkane Studios and Bethesda's focus are on the upcoming Dishonored 2. The stealth RPG action-game was also presented during the E3 event with its official gameplay trailer and good reception. Bethesda is also trying to have similar results in Gamescom to increase sales for the Steam pre-purchase edition of the title.

Event highlights

Ubisoft's flagship for Gamescom 2016 is the VR exploration game "Star Trek: Bridge Crew." One of the highlights in the event is the coop feature of the game. It is similar to the movie series where characters or players can join forces, and choose their respective roles such as an engineer or a spaceship captain.

Meanwhile, gaming giant Blizzard attends the event, but fans are still waiting for major announcements from the developer regarding new titles available next year. The best experience gamers can take is the trial version of 'World of Warcraft: Legion. Other Blizzard games are also available through the official website live streaming.

How to witness event?

Unfortunately for gamers who want to visit Gamescom, day tickets are already sold out. The remaining two options would be to grab a 3-day ticket that sells for a little over $92 at Gamescom Shop. Another option is to buy a day ticket inclusive of catalogue for $46. Gamescom is also implementing a one-ticket one-person policy for the event after reports of several pre-orders being sold online at higher prices have surfaced.
