George Clooney Writes Poem as His 'Prayer for Our Country'
George Clooney, a social activist as well as a Hollywood icon, wrote ten lines that he calls his "Prayer for Our Country." In the short free-verse poem, Clooney touched on several of the recent issues and divisions in America today.
The 56-year-old actor and philanthropist published his short payer on the Daily Beast, perhaps as a way to weigh in on several issues being debated all over the country in recent days. The short prose is his way of "reflecting on rising tensions in the United States," and has no other message other than the ten lines posted on the blog site.
A prayer for unity is more needed than ever, as clearly shown in the ongoing ideological conflicts that hit a peak with the Charlottesville clashes. Clooney also took the chance to pray for a change in the nation's leaders, even as the actor makes no effort to hide his dislike for President Donald Trump, as Entertainment Tonight notes.

In the middle of his plea, Clooney referred to the incident involving Tamir Rice, who was shot and killed in his own neighborhood in Clevland Ohio by a police officer. Rice was just 12 years old.
He also took the opportunity to pray for first responders, the armed services, and the police, many of whom have been working overtime as they respond to the needs of the people after Hurricanes Harvey in Texas, Irma in Florida, and Maria in Puerto Rico.
Lastly, he took a swipe at the ongoing war of words between Donald Trump and a vocal segment of the NFL, whose players have been staging kneeling protests in matches during the National Anthem. Clooney himself was subtle about it, but the accompanying photo drives the point home, regardless.
The actor could have posted it on Twitter, except he has already said that he's never joining the social platform, ever. Clooney has not responded to requests for comments as of this time, either, according to the International Business Times.
