George R.R. Martin Teases New Books, Talks About 'Winds of Winter'

Much like the coming of winter in "Game of Thrones," the wait for George R.R. Martin's new book is long. Is it launching anytime soon?

The sixth novel of Martin's hit series "A Song of Ice and Fire" is long overdue, and though there has yet to be an official date of release, reports are suggesting that the launch date will be pushed back even further due to the author's other commitments.

Martin is simultaneously working on several projects. Recently a "Game of Thrones" story was published in "The Book of Swords," the new anthology from Gardner Dozois. Through his live journal, he said the story titled "Sons of Dragon," which details the reigns of Aegon the Conquerer's two sons, Aenys I Targaryen and Maegor the Cruel, is included in the lineup.

Additionally, he confirmed that he is publishing two volumes about the fake histories of the Targaryen kings. It will be called "Fire and Blood." The first volume should cover the history of Westeros from Aegon's conquest up to the reign of the young king Aegon III, the Dragonbane. The second will cover the rest of history from Aegon III until Robert's Rebellion.

Martin said that the first volume should launch late next year or 2019 while the second one should take a few more years.

Furthermore, the author talked about "The Winds of Winter," which he is still writing, contrary to some reports. He said, "I don't know which story is more absurd, the one that says the book is finished and I've been sitting on it for some nefarious reason, or the one that says I have no pages. Both 'reports' are equally false and equally moronic."

"I am still working on it, I am still months away (how many? good question), I still have good days and bad days, and that's all I care to say," he continued.

The author admitted that he is unsure whether "Fire and Blood" or "The Winds of Winter" will hit shelves first.
