Georges St-Pierre News: BJJ Legend Renzo Gracie Believes Ex-UFC Welterweight Champ Will Make MMA Return

Former long-time welterweight world champion Georges St-Pierre last set foot in the UFC Octagon last November 2013 at UFC 167.

'GSP' left the said fight victorious via a controversial split decision verdict, albeit being bruised and battered by another former champion, Johny Hendricks. After the fight, St-Pierre, who was then 32-years old, declared that he would be taking an indefinite hiatus, leaving his successful professional mixed martial arts career open-ended.

Over the course of his absence, two fighters have held the coveted 170-pound world title belt. Hendricks won the vacant belt at UFC 171 in March 2014 against Robbie Lawler, only to lose it to the same man in a rematch that took place nine months after at UFC 181.

Since then, "Ruthless" has been successful at holding the title, defending it against formidable opponents such as Rory MacDonald and most recently, Carlos Condit. But for his part, St-Pierre never really closed the doors on a possible comeback, despite his uncertain state as far as his fighting career goes.

Many of his close confidantes, namely his trainer Firas Zahabi and protégé Rory MacDonald, believe that St-Pierre would return given the right offer, especially since he has never lost the urge to get back into competition.

Apparently, one of his grappling mentors also shares the same sentiments. In his recent appearance on MMAFigthing.com's 'the MMA Hour', Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Renzo Gracie believes St-Pierre will definitely be making a return to the Octagon, sooner than later.

"He's coming back for sure. That boy, the best thing he does in life is fighting. Look for how long he's been a champion," Gracie said. "He overcame so many obstacles."

"Many people don't know Georges would come from Canada, leave at 4, 4:30 in the morning, come to New York by bus, train the whole day and leave at night – this two, sometimes three times a week," he continued.

Gracie went on to add that St-Pierre deserves an immediate title shot upon his return.
