Georges St-Pierre News: Freddie Roach believes 'GSP' will be back

Famed trainer Freddie Roach believes that Georges St-Pierre will be back in the UFC soon.

The seven-time Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year awardee had worked with St-Pierre several times in the past. "GSP" himself would drop by Roach's Wild Card Gym in West Hollywood for some mitt work and sparring sessions.

In his appearance on Monday's edition of Ariel Helwani's "The MMA Hour" show on MMA Fighting, Roach believes that St-Pierre will be making an Octagon return soon.

"He's so positive, so good, and it was the best three training sessions we've ever had," Roach said.

The former long-time UFC welterweight champion last saw action in November 2013 at UFC 167, when he won by a controversial split decision verdict against former champion Johny Hendricks. After the fight, St-Pierre announced his indefinite leave from the sport, leaving the door of his career open for speculation.

Over the last few weeks, however, he has been dropping hints about a possible return.

"I'm starting to get the feeling, more and more, to come back," St-Pierre said in an October interview. "I watch the fights to see what's going on in my division, and I'm staying in shape."

Roach did concur with St-Pierre's previous statements, adding that the 34-year old fighter will be gauging himself after a six-week training camp. "He wants to see if he's hungry for it still, and if he still wants to do it," Roach continued.

"After six weeks, I know we'll have a great idea, it's either yes or no. I knew it was a great idea to do something like that."

"I haven't heard of it before, but it does make sense to me, the thing is, if he's not hungry for it again after six weeks training, you go away, if you are, you come back and get pulled out of vacation," he added.
