Georges St-Pierre News: Former long-time UFC welterweight champion blames Dana White for not returning to fight

Former long-time UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has partly pinned the blame on president Dana White for not being able to return to fighting.

"GSP" announced his intent to take a break from professional mixed martial arts competition in November 2013, after successfully defending his title for the tenth consecutive time against former champion Johny Hendricks at UFC 168.

"A lot is going on in my life. I have to step away," St-Pierre told UFC analyst Joe Rogan during the post-fight interview. "Right now I have to go away for a little bit."

St-Pierre's career plans apparently irked White, who expressed his sentiments during the said event's post-fight press conference.

"No...You don't just say 'I'll take some time off, maybe I'll be back, maybe I won't,'" White said. "You owe it to the fans, you owe it to that belt, you owe it to this company and you owe it to Johny Hendricks to give him that opportunity to fight again."

It has been two years since White made his statements, and the two parties have even met up in 2014 to discuss a possible return. St-Pierre himself has been dropping hints about a comeback.

But during his recent appearance in Chael Sonnen's "You're Welcome" podcast, the Tristar Gym standout revealed that White was actually one of the reasons why he was not able to make a comeback.

According to St-Pierre, he was turned off with how White worded his statements during the press conference.

"I found out Dana was saying I was gone to hospital and I was badly hurt," St-Pierre said. "I was like, what is wrong with this? Because I didn't know what was going on."

"I understand Dana was pissed because I was leaving with the belt," he continued. "I got it. But he could have done it with a bit of better class, you know?"

White St-Pierre has been training "for fun" during his hiatus, he is actually questioning if he would feel the same if he did make an Octagon return.

"The question is, if I go back to fighting would that fun leave or will I still have fun? I don't know," he said.
