Georgia Tech Speech Video Goes Viral: Watch Student Wow Incoming Freshmen With Inspiring Speech (VIDEO)
Nick Selby made it clear that the destiny of Georgia Tech mechanical engineers could be nothing short of greatness. At his welcome speech at Sunday's convocation, Selby gave the speech a traditional start --donning a black robe and reminding students, "We chose Georgia Tech because we wanted to do the impossible."
The theme of 2001 Space Odyssey began in the background as Selby set the bar for the expectations that future Yellowjackets should expect.
"Our mission as students is not follow in the footsteps of the astronauts, Nobel Prize laureates and presidents who graduated before us, but to exceed their footsteps, crush the shoulders of the giants upon whom we stand," Selby declared as the music crescendoed around him.
Selby asserted that Georgia Tech students should push the limits of creativity and imagination.
"So, I am telling you if you want to change the world, you're at Georgia Tech. You can do that! If you want to build the 'Iron Man' suit, you are at Georgia Tech. You can do that!" he said. "If you want to play theme music during your convocation speech like (beep), we're at Georgia Tech. We can do that! I am doing that!"
Selby, according to CNN, is in the top 2 percent of Georgia Tech's enrolled students and co-leads the Team Solar Jackets, who create and race a solar-powered car in the Formula Sun Grand Prix.
