'Ghost Recon: Wildlands' Latest News: Free Play Weekend Currently Ongoing

"Ghost Recon: Wildlands" is free to play this weekend. Ubisoft is letting players explore the open world of the latest "Ghost Recon" for no charge, from Thursday, Oct. 12, up to Sunday, Oct. 15, with different start times for the PC and consoles versions.

PC players can get right down to downloading the game from a link in Ubisoft's announcement page for the free trial. Players on the PC have a slight head start as well, having started their free weekend of "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" at 1 p.m. EDT on Thursday.

Xbox and PlayStation 4 players, meanwhile, will need to log in to their Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus accounts, respectively. Both consoles had their free games unlocked at 3 p.m. EDT on Oct. 12.

This is a new promo from Ubisoft that's a separate thing from their downloadable five-hour trial of "Ghost Recon: Wildlands," as Gamespot notes. Aside from that, this version also includes all the changes made since the beta trial runs of the new game, including the new Ghost War PvP mode that has just been introduced this Tuesday, Oct. 10.

After the free trial, players who enjoyed the game can go and buy it for half the price, with the discount taking effect for the PC and PlayStation versions once the free weekend started.

The discount for Xbox, however, will be only available for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, and only on the day after the free weekend promo, on Monday, Oct. 16.

With this new promo, the game starts at just $30 for the Standard Edition, with the premium Gold Edition dropping down to $50.

The video below shows the gameplay features of "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" that players can dive into for free this weekend, which started on Thursday, Oct. 12. The Free Weekend promo runs until Sunday, followed by a discount promo for 50 percent off on any version of the game.
