'Ghost Recon: Wildlands' News: Ubisoft Confirms PvP Open Beta Goes Live This Week
After months of waiting, Ubisoft surprised "Ghost Recon: Wildlands" players by announcing that the much-awaited player-versus-player game mode "Ghost War" will enter open beta this week.
An open beta is normally the last phase of testing that an unreleased game title goes through, which means "Ghost War" is near its final version.
"Ghost Recon: Wildlands" was developed by Ubisoft's Paris headquarters and is famous for being a tactical shooter game set in an open world environment inspired by locations in Bolivia. It takes place in the year 2019. For Ubisoft, the game's open world environment is one of the biggest they have ever published as it features several types of terrain.
The game was first released last March for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. At the time, Ubisoft had already promised players that a PvP mode was in the pipeline.
In a statement released last week, Ubisoft confirmed that the open beta testing for "Ghost War" will commence on Thursday, Sept. 21 until Sept. 25. Meanwhile, participating players can start pre-loading the PvP mode on Tuesday, Sept. 19.
Ubisoft has also confirmed that the "Ghost War" PvP mode will be released in its final form before the fall season ends. However, a specific release date has yet to be given.
Unlike other previously released post-launch contents for the game, the "Ghost War" PvP mode will be added to the game as part of an upcoming free update supported by all three gaming platforms.
Players joining the open beta phase can expect "a 4v4 deathmatch with no respawning, fought in a 'best of three' format."
"Ghost War's" final release will have a total of eight featured maps. However, only five of those will be available during the open beta. The PvP mode will also introduce three player categories – Assault, Marksman, and Support – with "12 specialized classes."
Meanwhile, Ubisoft will hold a livestream game demo of the PvP mode via Twitch on Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. EDT.
