'Ghost Wars' Air Date, Teaser: Avan Jogia, Vincent D'Onofrio Fight Paranormal Forces in Syfy Series [VIDEO]

Another supernatural series will mark its debut on television. "Ghost Wars" on Syfy will see Avan Jogia (Roman Mercer) fighting off paranormal forces in a remote town in Alaska.

This small place is seemingly cut off from the rest of the world. Jogia as Mercer arrives in Port Moore not knowing anyone, so the locals treat him differently being a newcomer.

"No one likes me," Jogia said at a recent San Diego Comic-Con panel. "I kind of inhabit this place as an outsider."

Mercer, however, has the ability to communicate with the paranormal, which happens to inhabit the remote coastal village and wreak havoc among the residents. Because of this, the locals eventually run to him for help in dealing with the ghosts and it is not always a friendly encounter.

Joining Jogia in "Ghost Wars" are Vincent D'Onofrio (Father Dan), Kandyse McClure (Landis Barker), Sarah Giles (Abigail), Allison James (Isabel) and Syd Lazzara (Syd). Meat Loaf (Doug) and "Sons of Anarchy's" Kim Coates also appear on the show.

D'Onofrio said that even before the ghosts terrorized the town, Port Moore was already in bad shape because it's so isolated. Yet things can still get worse.

"Everybody changes and is affected," D'Onofrio shared. "Good people get really good and bad people get really bad."

Syfy ordered 13 episodes of "Ghost Wars" from creator Simon Barry ("Continuum"), which will also be streaming on Netflix outside of the United States. Chad Oakes, Mike Frislev, Dennis Heaton and David Von Ancken serve as executive producers.

Don't expect "Ghost Wars" to be purely a horror presentation. Barry described his series as a mix of "science, humanism, religion and the paranormal," which explores how every character is shaped by his or her own beliefs and biases.

Syfy has not yet announced the show's exact premiere date but it's expected to begin airing later this year.
