'Gilmore Girls' Creators Unveil New Series 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel' With First Teaser
"Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband Dan Palladino have a new show coming to Amazon. "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" gives off as similar vibe as their more popular cult series as shown in the first teaser.
Amazon will launch all episodes of the first season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" on its streaming platform in November. The company also picked up the show for a two-season run ahead of its debut.
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" stars Rachel Brosnahan as Midge Maisel who is married to a businessman/aspiring comedian, Joel (Michael Zegen). Mrs. Maisel gives her husband full support and sometimes provides him feedback for his acts to improve.
After Joel reveals he's having an affair, Mrs. Maisel goes on a tirade on the comedy stage. She later realizes that she also has a knack for comedy and thus embarks a new career while picking up the pieces of her failed marriage.
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" has the same amusing and heart-warming feel as "Gilmore Girls" but given that it's on a subscription platform, Sherman-Palladino does not hold back with the f-bombs. The first teaser is actually not safe for work (NSFW) because of all the curse words Mrs. Maisel utters.
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" definitely has a strong female presence like the ladies on "Gilmore Girls." But one other thing that sets the two shows differently is that the new series takes place in the 1950s.
"The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" also stars Tony Shalhoub as Mrs. Maisel's dad Abe Weissman and Marin Hinkle as the mom Rose Weissman. Her parents never liked her husband and they will have much impact in how she'll cope with the end of her marriage.
Subscribers to Amazon Prime can already watch the pilot episode to the show, which received a 4.9 rating out of five stars from the platform's customers. The full season, however, will stream beginning Wednesday, Nov. 29.
