'Girl Meets World' Season 4 Cancellation News: Show is Yet to Find New Network; Protagonist Joins New Series
As the Disney curtains closed on "Girl Meets World" last month, reports have it that several TV networks have already declined to pick up the show. Meanwhile, Rowan Blanchard moves on as she joins a new series. Blanchard played the role of Riley Matthews in the canceled coming-of-age series.
According to Yibada, the popular movie and TV show streaming site, Netflix, was the first to turn down the possibility of continuing "Girl Meets World," while another network, Hulu, is reportedly not showing positive signs of picking it up. However, Yibada also claims that Hulu has yet to make their final decision.
Last month, "Girl Meets World" showrunner Michael Jacobs told TVLine that there were discussions going on about continuing the show under a new network. "And I can tell you it's because of the audience's reaction to the cancellation that there is interest in other places. ... Those that answer 'We're doing it for the audience' and mean it, they sustain," Jacobs added.
On the other hand, if ever "Girl Meets World" finds its new nest, it is uncertain if Blanchard will still play a big role in it since she has reportedly accepted new projects shortly after the show aired its last episode.
According to another TVLine report, Blanchard has a new gig with ABC's 1980s-themed series "The Goldbergs." The young actress is slated to play a guest role in the show's fourth season where she takes on the role of Aliza, an editor for a student-run sci-fi magazine at the William Penn Academy. The schedule of Blanchard's appearance in "The Goldbergs" is yet to be revealed but TVLine estimates that it will either be in the late winter or early spring this year.
Blanchard has also made a deal to be in several upcoming movies such as "A World Away" and "A Wrinkle in Time" that are slated for release in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
Disney aired the last episode of "Girl Meets World" last Jan. 20 where the show ended with the appearance of major characters from its parent series "Boy Meets World."
