'Girl Meets World' Spoilers: How Will Disney Handle a Love Triangle?
Riley and Maya are Both Dating Lucas
The return of the hit Disney Channel series "Girl Meets World" brought an interesting addition to the storyline when it presented a polyamorous relationship.
Shocking Relationship Surprise
The Disney series is well-received by many viewers because of its relevant content. It serves as a revolutionary series to Disney, presenting a new kind of narrative to the channel. "Girl Meets World" Season 3 is not any different as it presented a shocking development in the character's relationships.
The previous season of the series showed the struggle between best friends Riley (Rowan Blanchard) and Maya (Sabrina Carpenter). The two happened to like the same guy, Lucas (Peyton Meyer). Throughout Season 2, Lucas did not choose between the girls, leaving them confused about their relationships.
Riley or Maya -- Who Will Lucas Choose?
In the premiere of "Girl Meets Wolrd" Season 3, it was revealed that Lucas was not able to choose between the two, leaving them both as his girlfriends. This was the first time a polyamorous relationship was revealed in the story. With that, fans can expect the new season to delve deeper into the idea.
The two were seen still struggling with their relationship, while getting used to their new environment. However, there are many questioning Disney Channel's decision to push the series in such a way. Nevertheless, it is going to be a vital part in the upcoming episode of the series. Titled "Girl Meets Triangle," the episode is expected to shed more light on the complicated relationship.
The synopsis read, "Maya's identity crisis kicks into full gear when her art teacher makes her realize her friendship with Riley may be affecting her artist's voice."
In addition, the teaser for the season showed Riley and Maya promising each other that they will do their best to remain by each other side while ironically being separated in the halls of their new high school. With that, there is a chance that Maya and Riley's friendship will be tested. Though they are dating the same person, fans will see the two girls trying to maintain their relationship and stay together despite their complicated situation.
The showrunner of the series, Michael Jacobs, explained that this will be addressed in the new season of "Girl Meets World."
"Then when we bring it up to primary, we will resolve it in a way that shows an answer to a much bigger question, which is, how do young people at this age perceive relationships? What is the value of them? And what are our friendships, really?" He said. "If the audience perceives that what we're talking about is 14-year olds in love, they have missed what we're doing entirely. All of this will explain itself as part of the season."
