'Girls' season 5 spoilers: New season will feature a special Japan episode; possible crossover with 'Elementary?'
The season finale of the hit series "Girls" ended on a very positive and uplifting note. Hannah (Lena Dunham) finally matures and ends things with Adam (Adam Driver) for good, as she takes on a more stable relationship with Fran (Jake Lacey), her colleague. Meanwhile, Shoshanna (Zoisa Mamet) has to choose between her career and her boyfriend Scott (Jason Ritter), and she chooses the job in Japan. Jessa (Jemima Kirke), on the other hand, now has a goal and that is to become a therapist, while Marnie (Allison Williams) is torn between two guys, Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Ray (Alex Karpovsky).
In the forthcoming season, it looks like there is a possible crossover in the works. Some recent photos from the set clearly show Adam in a scene with Lucy Liu and what appears to be the back of Johnny Lee Miller, although it's not very clear. In other photos, Marnie can be seen walking down the street barefoot in a stunning red dress from a night out on the town, presumably, while Ray can be seen on the news.
Actress Lena Dunham, who created the show, was seen directing an episode on the streets of Brooklyn. The photos show Dunham in director mode, which indicates that her character Hannah might not be part of the episode. She was wearing a very gaudy leaf print dress.
Co-showrunner Jenni Konner spoke about the plans for the next season. "We'll keep exploring Tad (Peter Scolari) and [Loreen]'s (Becky Ann Baker) story. We have a lot of friends whose parents came out later in life and it's not that clean of a choice or that simple of a choice. It can be terrifying, and I think we're trying to do a realistic version of Tad trying to figure out what he wants and what he's afraid of and how brave he is," she said.
There will be a special episode in the upcoming season that will take the fans to Japan as it follows Shoshanna and her new boss, who will be played by Aidy Bryant. Dunham talked about the reason for going to Japan. She said that they wanted to give Shoshanna a chance to find herself without the other girls. This is her moment to figure out who she is by herself.
There is no set date for the show's return; however, it is most likely that fans will get to see the new season some time next year.
