'Girls' Season 6 Spoilers, Cast News: Series May Be Ending After Season 6

The HBO series "Girls" has definitely reached a certain success that many shows hoped for. Being tagged as the millennial "Sex and the City" ever since it premiered in 2012, the series, largely written and produced by Lena Dunham, received a long list of accolades that have also helped Dunham boost her career to where it is now.

"Girls" will be entering its fifth season in 2016; however, shooting for season 5 has already wrapped up last August. Looking at the show from HBO's perspective, it would be safe to assume that the show will have more years to come. However, Dunham may have plans of her own involving the show's direction.

Dunham was recently in a call-in radio interview with Elvis Duran and the "Morning Show." According to Entertainment Weekly, she talked about her ideas about where season 6 could be heading to, and from her words, it is implied that the series may be seeing the end after season 6. Dunham shares, "Never say never, but that is the way that we're thinking about it right now, and we're starting to think about sort of how to wrap up the story lines of these particular young women. It's really exciting. I started working on this show when I was 23. I'm going to be 30, so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world."

Although many may feel that the end of the show is too soon after years of relatable "becoming adult" plotlines, Dunham has different opinions about this. She goes, "I think America has a tendency to push shows past their due dates. I like the British model: in-and-out." Furthermore, she also shared that she is open to having a reunion of the girls on the big screen, perhaps 10 years later. Dunham tells, "I have fantasies of us all coming back when we're 40, [though] we'd want to wait long enough for something to have really gone down."

Season 5 of "Girls" will premiere in January 2016 on HBO.
