Golden State Warriors Roster, Injury News 2017: Forward Draymond Green Diagnosed With Left Knee Strain
The Golden State Warriors got a bit of a scare when Draymond Green hurt his left knee in the third quarter of their season opener against the Houston Rockets on Tuesday. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be anything serious.
Green was diagnosed with a strained left knee and he didn't return to the game. The versatile forward already underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam to determine the severity of the injury and they should get the results of the test on Wednesday or early Thursday. His status for the Warriors' upcoming three-game road trip is uncertain for now.
"I don't think it's serious but we'll see," Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said after practice on Wednesday, via NBA.com. "He just slipped on the floor. We'll see if he's OK. It was a tough break, he's sprained both ankles in the last week," he added.
Green absence was felt in the fourth quarter of Tuesday's game. The Warriors actually had a 101–88 lead going into the final period, but they couldn't hold off the Rockets and they ended up losing 122–121 on their home floor.
The two-time All-Star finished the game one point shy of a triple-double with nine points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists. If Green misses time, Patrick McCaw, Nick Young and Jordan Bell should see a significant uptick in minutes.
Meanwhile, Andre Iguodala's back is still bothering him and his status for Friday's game against the New Orleans Pelicans remains uncertain.
"It was worse than I thought actually," Iguodala said, via the Mercury News. "It's getting better, though. Feeling good about the road trip," he continued.
Kerr is also optimistic about getting Iguodala back this Friday.
"Hopefully Andre will be OK. Everyday he's been getting better. He's pretty confident he's on the right track," Kerr said.
However, the Warriors coach has noted that he doesn't want to play Iguodala unless the forward is fully healthy.
"If he's banged up, he won't play and we'll just make do with what we have," he stated.
