'GoldenEye 007' Remake Footage Leaked; Updated Missions and Features Revealed
A high definition 30-minute gameplay footage of the remake of classic game GoldenEye 007 was leaked with updated missions, maps, and weapons.
Remake of a classic
After almost two decades since the release of Rare's hit first-person shooter video game, fans of GoldenEye 007 have been clamoring for an update. Anticipation has been rising as leaks and hints for the Xbox 360 update have been spotted across the internet. However, even when support for the new iteration of the game has been overwhelming, it never saw the light of day.
The biggest one to date is a leaked video footage showing what could have been the gameplay of the unreleased version of the video game. It was originally set to be released on 2008, and was set to feature maps and weapons that gamers clamored for.
The original Bond
The gameplay video was released by Rare Thief, a website dedicated to leaking unreleased and beta versions of games developed by Rare. Being one of the most classic Nintendo 64 games, its latest subject is the GoldenEye 007.
The James Bond-based game originally features a single-player shooter campaign format, having the gamer play the role of British Secret Intelligence Service agent James Bond. He then fights criminals to prevent a syndicate from utilizing a certain satellite weapon against London, causing a worldwide financial mayhem. A multiplayer mode is also included in the original game via a split-screen module, in which up to four players can compete in various death match games.
It was considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time. The original game was the first to feature stealth elements and multiplayer death match modules.
Leak details
The video released by Rare Thief features outtakes from the unfinished Xbox Live Arcade remake. There were also screenshots for the options and settings available in the game. It features five new gaming modes, namely Dam, Facility, Surface, Cradle, and Aztec.
There was also a supposed nostalgic feature that gives the gamers the capability to switch between the game's graphics. Users can choose whether to play using the original textures of the Nintendo 64, or the new version. Switching between the graphic modes are non-intrusive, meaning that players don't have to stop gaming for the changes to take effect.
The overall frame rate has been upgraded to 60 frames per second, as opposed to the original 30. The skyboxes have also been upgraded, along with remade missions and weapons. Along with the gameplay, screenshots of cheat codes were also leaked.
Rights and the future
As the leaks go viral in social media, fans took to Twitter their frustration and question. Shahnoor Ali tweeted Xbox boss Phil Spencer about the development of the game, to which Spencer then replied.
@XboxP3 Was Goldeneye 007 Really in development for the Xbox 360? https://t.co/zhTt6CCVYI
— Shahnoor Ali (@ShahnoorAli) August 24, 2016
@ShahnoorAli GoldenEye has always been a rights issue, not a "getting code to run" issue.

With rights being the only impediment for the release of the game, fans are hoping to have the issue resolved. Many are still anticipating for the remake to hit Xbox Live Arcade in the future.
