'Goliath' Season 2 News: 'Transparent' Star Alexandra Billings Lands Recurring Role
Alexandra Billings is officially on board for "Goliath" season 2.
The "Transparent" star has been tapped to join the Amazon drama's new season, reports confirmed. She will take on the recurring role of Judge Martha Wallace, an experienced professional who is controlled and has a great attention to detail.
Judge Wallace presides over the trial of a teenager who is accused of a double murder. Because she does not cut any slack for the defense, Judge Wallace becomes a threat for Billy McBride (Billy Thornton).
The actress joins "Goliath" newcomer Mark Duplass, whose casting was announced last month. Duplass has landed the series regular role of Tom Wyatt, a successful developer based in Los Angeles. Aside from being a philanthropist, he serves as a major campaign contributor for Marisol Silva (Ana De La Reguera).
Billings is best known for her stint in "Transparent" as Maura's (Jeffrey Tambor) mentor, Davina.
News of Billings' casting comes just a week after showrunner Clyde Phillips ("Dexter") has exited the drama after joining the legal drama's second installment. Lawrence Trilling, who worked on the show's first season, will be serving as his replacement.
Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that Phillips had already finished writing all 10 episodes of the new season. Amazon and Thornton have also signed off on the scripts, but insiders claim a creative rift happened when Thornton did not like how the premiere played out.
The conflict resulted to production being shut down. Phillips reportedly decided to step down as showrunner instead of having the writers re-arc the whole installment. The premiere is now in the process of being rewritten and reshot. Sources noted that season 2 will be reduced from 10 to seven episodes as well. Production resumed earlier this week.
The second season of "Goliath" is expected to premiere later this year on Amazon Prime.
