Google Home Mini Price, Specs News: Speaker Assistant to Ship to Devices as Early as Oct. 19?

Google may have been trying to put a lid on their mini version of the Google Home speaker as a surprise for their event on Wednesday, Oct. 4. Walmart, however, couldn't help but let a listing slip just long enough to give everyone online a good long look at the puck-like device.

Wednesday is a huge day for Google, as the search giant prepares to unveil the much-awaited Pixel 2 in San Francisco. The company is also expected to launch a whole range of devices tagged "Made by Google," including their new Home Mini.

Walmart didn't help much in keeping it all under wraps, though. The retailer let slip on Tuesday a pre-order listing for the Google Home Mini, showing a cute, puck-like round mound that looks like a speaker and not much else.

The listing was taken down quickly, but not before tech outlets like Droid Life was able to secure photos of the device, along with other details. The tiny home assistant about to be launched by Google will retail for $49, according to the misfired listing.

Photos of the device, placed side by side with the Pixel 2 XL, shows just how tiny this new assistant from Google will be when it finally comes out on Oct. 19. The whole appliance weighs less than a pound, and measures less than five inches at its longest. With the same form factor as the competing Amazon Echo Dot, this new Google Home Mini looks to be priced similarly as well. On top of that, Walmart also has a promo with Google Express that lets buyers get a $25 discount on orders made before Jan. 15 next year. This means that with this discount promo, the new Google Home Mini could be had for just $24, according to Engadget. Not much else is precisely known about its specs, other than the Home Mini being a very downsized version of the Google Home. While the bigger home assistant has 2-inch drivers in its speaker setup, the new Mini is certain to have something smaller and weaker.
