Google Pixel 2 News: Android Oreo 8.1 Update Will Wake Up a Superior Image Chip
Google has recently unveiled the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, and although many were disappointed with the old school design, recent reports have revealed that it has more surprises to come, especially with the upcoming Android Oreo update. Apparently, there is a dormant chip in the devices that will only be accessible once the update is rolled out.
The competition in the smartphone market has become intense in the past few years. This year, tech giants have been releasing flagships that can stand as a worthy rival to Apple and Samsung's best.
According to reports, Google failed to mention the chip when it unveiled the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL last Oct. 4. However, the search giant seems to be making up for it now as they have announced the Pixel Visual Core, and it is Google's first, custom system on a chip technology.

Its purpose is to make Google's flagship smartphones standout in terms of photography, as it will allow developers to write apps that will better suit the capabilities of the Visual Core. Furthermore, it will accelerate the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL's HDR+, which is one of the features that makes photos taken from the device look so vibrant and high quality.
"HDR+ is the first application to run on Pixel Visual Core," Google said in a statement, as reported by Tech Crunch. "As noted above, Pixel Visual Core is programmable and we are already preparing the next set of applications. The great thing is that as we follow up with more, new applications on Pixel Visual Core, Pixel 2 will continue to improve."
Right now, the image chip has yet to manifest its prowess. However, once the Android Oreo 8.1 update rolls out, it will rise up to its full potential and possibly dethrone Samsung and Apple from being the best smartphone camera on the market.
