Google Pixel 2 Release Date, Specs Rumors 2017: Pixel 2 Confirmed Coming This Year

The Google Pixel 2 is in the works in time for its launch this year, 2017, according to Google senior vice president of hardware Rick Osterloh. He made the big reveal to the press at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain.

The next Google Pixel phone finally gets some much-needed official confirmation. According to the Daily Star, Osterloh made the announcement earlier this week on a press event at the Barcelona mobile industry event. Following his statement, Google will be planning to launch the Google Pixel 2 handheld later this year.

Hinting at the company's plans on the schedule of the Pixel 2, Osterloh commented that "There is an annual rhythm in the industry. So, you can count on us to follow it." Considering that both the Pixel and the Pixel XL were both launched in October 2016, there's a good possibility that the next Pixel phone will be released around that time as well. Value Walk points out that this makes a regular 12-month release cycle that will be simple enough for Google to stick to.

These are all just speculations for now, since Osterloh did not reveal any more details regarding the release schedule or on any of the specifications for the much-anticipated device. All he simply did is reassure the market that the Google Pixel 2 is coming: "You can count on a successor this year, even if you don't hear a date from me now," the SVP for Google hardware promised the press gathered at the Mobile World Congress.

Osterloh also confirmed that the Pixel will remain firmly in the high-end segment of the market in terms of features and price. Without giving out any more details, he simply explained that "Pixel stays premium" despite questions from the press on possible plans to introduce a budget Pixel this year, according to the Android Pit.
