Google Pixel Problems News: Several Phones Stop Receiving Texts After Android Oreo Update
The Android Oreo has been out for almost two months now, but it's only now that the new OS update has started causing trouble to some Pixel handsets. Android Oreo officially launched last Aug. 21.
Pixel owners, along with a handful of other people owning other handsets like the Nexus 5X and the Galaxy S7, have reported that their phones have stopped receiving text messages. Others who have posted in the Google Product forums also noticed that the issue seems to affect just the incoming messages; outgoing texts are still being sent.
Some owners took to rebooting their Pixel phones, which seems to have fixed the issue for good for some handsets. Some owners, however, were not so lucky, as rebooting or even doing a factory reset on their devices would only fix the problem for several days, or have no effect at all.
Finally, Google Community Manager Orrin shared that the Pixel team has started looking into the issues. "Thanks for all of the reports. The team is aware of this issue and working towards a fix," the Google representative wrote in a response on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
"Some of you have mentioned that rebooting or factory resetting the device resolved the issue. Definitely try to reboot, and if you do factory reset, make sure all of your data/info is backed up," he explained, as quoted by Android Authority.
A good part of the respondents who reported the issue also noted that they were Verizon customers, according to 9 to 5 Google. For now, the Google team is looking at all angles to create a fix to this issue, including from the side of the network provider.
This update on this issue comes in the wake of another Android Oreo problem, this time with the Pixel Bluetooth. The issue, which has popped up in one form or another in the Google Pixel and Pixel XL since their launch, reared its head once again after a security update for Android Oreo released earlier this month.
