GoPro Hero 4 to Have New A9 Chip, Offers 4K Video Recording at 30fps
The first GoPro compact camera took the action photography world by storm when it was first released. It was hugely popular among people who loved activities like skateboarding, rock climbing, or surfing and wanted to capture the moment.
All those enthusiasts needed to do was to attach the camera to a helmet or to their board and start shooting videos and and taking photos of their extreme stunts.
GoPro has already released a number of products, with the GoPro Hero 3 being its latest camera. Now, the company has announced the fourth Hero camera and is ready for an October 2014 release date.
The Hero 3 was equipped with an ARM A7 processor whereas the Hero 4 could be sporting a newer Cortex-A9 processor chip with an FPU accelerator. This newer chip will be needed by the Hero 4 in capturing 4K resolution photos and videos at 30fps. The Hero 3 was only able to capture in 4K at 15fps.
The Hero 4 can also record videos in a lower resolution at a higher frame rate; 1080p at 120fps and 720p at 240p. This will allow smoother video taking, especially for high-speed sports and activities.
The Hero 4 will also be likely to come with a new 13-megapixel photo-sensor that will enable the camera to take photos and videos in the dark.
Older features such as waterproofing and a compact build will still be incorporated in the Hero 4, but with upgraded specs, people can expect it to be more expensive than the Hero 3. Prices could go as high as $340 for a standard version, if ever different variants are released like the Hero 3.
