GoPro Hero 6 Black Specs, Release Date: Brand-New Leak Confirms New Custom Processor, What It Can Do and More

The GoPro Hero 6 Black is becoming less of a mystery as its release date draws closer, thanks to a brand-new leak — the second one just this week.

A user on Reddit has shared a picture showing the back of the purported packaging of the next-generation GoPro Hero found in a local store, confirming some of the specs that were previously revealed.

GoPro is indeed breaking up with Ambarella, the manufacturer that provided the processors that powered their action and sports cameras over the year. For the Hero 6 Black, a custom processor called GP1 will be used.

With the company no handling the processing side of things, it is expected that they can do some much-needed tweaks for longer battery life and an overall improved experience on the camera.

Per the leaked image, GP1 will offer "next-level video stabilization and twice the performance." This means that users will be able to capture "super smooth" on the GoPro Hero 6 Black, may it be handheld or mounted.

The leak also confirms a report from a few days ago by The Verge that the new GoPro will support 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, which is double that of its predecessor.

It will also be capable of capturing 1080p footage at 240 frames per second. Last year's GoPro Hero 5 Black was only able to get the same resolution in 120 frames per second.

The image also mentions that the GoPro Hero 6 Black will come with three times faster offload speeds for quicker transfer of photos and videos on a smartphone.

QuickStories, the much-loved new app GoPro introduced a few months back to allow users to send a video they just took on the action camera directly to their smartphone in which they can edit it automatically, will also be present in the new Hero Black model.

The GoPro Hero 6 Black is expected to be unveiled on Sept. 28. Pricing is expected to be $499 in the United States.
