'Gotham' Season 2 News, Spoilers: GCPD's Newest Police Commissioner Arrives; Is The Joker Really Dead?

The Gotham City Police Department may have lost a fine leader in Commissioner Sarah Essen, but the city's finest has yet to meet the new, more ruthless and more iron-willed replacement in the upcoming episode of Fox's hit crime-fighting drama TV series "Gotham" Season 2.

Citing the spoiler report from International Business Times, the episode titled "Strike Force," will get to see the arrival of the new GCPD boss, Captain Nathaniel Barnes (played by Michael Chiklis).

Barnes' first order of business, according to the summary posted over at The Futon Critic, is to create a "law-abiding task force," with help from none other than Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie).

Fans, however, should be wary of what the newcomer could do. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly (via IBT), Chiklis revealed that he agreed to take on the role because he was told the character is quite an unpredictable one. At first, he will be seen as a good guy, but the potential for him to choose a different path is there.

He further said, this time in an interview with Yahoo!TV (via IBT), that Barnes is actually a "bull in a bull ring, not a bull in china shop," which means that he is a force to be reckoned with. Will he come in disagreement with Gordon and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue), no one knows. But one thing is for sure, Barnes sees Gordon as the future of the police department.

Meanwhile, fans were left in utter awe with yet another stellar performance from Cameron Monaghan as Jerome in "The Last Laugh." Though the character may have already taken its last bow, the details are clearly hinting that the legacy of the sinister-laughing lunatic lives on.

In an interview with executive producer Danny Cannon (via Melty.com), he said that Jerome/the Joker doesn't necessarily die "because the ideology will live on: that idea of anarchy, that idea of chaos, a selfish belief that anything can be destroyed."

But as to when this "chaos," "anarchy," and madness fully manifest, it remains to be seen.

"Gotham" Season 2 airs this Monday, Oct. 12, on Fox.
