'Gotham' season 2 plot news: The Joker is back

The latest news for the hit series "Gotham" reveal that the season will feature the show's most dangerous villains, such as The Joker.

The recent teaser hinted at the changes that Gotham will face for the episode to come. The trailer had Theo Galavan explaining that the town will see monsters that will cleanse society with blood and dire. Therefore, it can be assumed that the villains will be mustering up trouble.

The actor who portrays Young Batman/Bruce Wayne shared details about the villains for the upcoming season, according to Comicbook.com. He said, "We're going to see the villains shift from mobsters to super villains. The villains that we know in Batman are going to be the ones who take over Gotham. And because the threat of villains is going to be so immense, the heroes will really have to team up."

The season is expected to feature villains such as the Mad Hatter, Clayface, Firefly, and The Joker.

With that, Cameron Monaghan will be reprising his role as The Joker. Monaghan also shared information about his character. He said, "He causes massive amounts of carnage. You see exactly how dangerous a personality like his could possibly be. We see allusions to a very great villain. It's less of a he and more of an idea. It's not about a man. It's about the ideology of a man and what that represents and how it affects other people. I can say that by that ideology Jerome is very adept [at spreading it]."

It was also hinted that Barbara will have to face The Joker, when checked into Arkham due to her mental health. She will then be greatly influenced by The Joker, meaning the season will see more trouble.

Gotham is expected to return on FOX with season 2 on Sept. 21.
