'Gotham Season 2' will unleash new super villains
"Gotham" the series, which deals with the pre-Batman time and the descend of Gotham City into darkness, will have more villains this season. Not only will the super villains take over Gotham City, but they will fight amongst each other ruthlessly in pursuit of supremacy.
The trailers and teasers of "Gotham Season 2" feature several new villains. Of interest is that this season will tell the story of 'Joker', Batman's most formidable foe. But there is no hint yet as to how and when will Bruce Wayne appear.
When "Gotham" Season 1 aired, the response from audiences and critics had been rather tepid. The common complaint was that all 22 episodes looked disconnected and had the stories of one villain at a time with no connection to any event and no effort at building up a story line. Soon it started to warm up, the ratings showed a rise and the second season was green-lighted.
This time, however, executive producer Danny Cannon, in an interview with Collider, said that focus will be on building solid plot lines with more villains who connect with one another.
Cannon said, "We've created a saga in Season 2 and are splitting the saga into two pieces. Rather than telling so many different stories and treating them as individual stories, it's 22 episodes of one story. Therefore, it's a lot harder to break because we want to organically weave in a lot of origin stories into this one main story. It's very complex."
A trailer of the premiere episode titled "Damned If You Do" was released, showing the villains who will be causing mayhem. Among them are villains Victor Zsasz played by Anthony Carrigan, Oswald Cobblepot played by Robin Lord Taylor, and Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma who becomes the Enigma. The Tigress, Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas) makes her debut on the show this season. So does Tabitha's brother, Theo Galavan (James Frain), who says, "Gotham would tremble before me. We want headlines. We want mass panic." Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan), possibly soon to be known as the Joker, is also part of the group. Michelle Veintimilla will play the female version of the Firefly and her human alter ego will be Bridgit Pike.
"Gotham" Season 2 returns to Fox on Monday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m.
