'Gotham' Season 4 Spoilers: Penguin Deals With First Setback After Return to Power

Things will not go as Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) planned in the upcoming season premiere of "Gotham."

In the episode titled "Pax Penguina," the synopsis revealed that Penguin's "licensing" of crime in the city will fail during the grand opening of his new Iceberg Lounge. The villain is back to take his place as king of the Gotham underworld in season 4. He even has a new headquarters where he hopes to manage his activities "legally." However, it looks like his idea will go down the drain so fast that he will not be able to think of a back-up plan.

Penguin has a lot to prove to his followers in the new installment. When it was revealed that Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) took him down, he lost many of his loyal servants. It has been teased that his return to power will not be easy. For one, there is the threat that his former best friend will come back to get revenge.

In a previous interview, Taylor said that his character's biggest nightmare was to come face to face with the man who calls himself The Riddler.

"We know that Ed escapes and that is an extremely terrifying moment for Oswald because, again, Oswald when he's at his lowest its when he has no control," Taylor shared in an interview with ComicBook. "Nygma is the only person who could meet Oswald on his level in terms of intellect and cunning. Now that he cannot control him anymore it's terrifying and threatening to him."

Meanwhile, Jim (Ben McKenzie) will find out that Jonathan Crane (guest star Charlie Tahan) is still alive after a series of robberies hints of The Scarecrow's involvement. As for Bruce (David Mazouz), he is definitely on his way to embracing his Batman personality. He is set to begin his vigilante ways after meeting with Ra's al Ghul (Alexander Siddig).

"Gotham" season 4 will premiere on Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. EDT on Fox.
