'Gotham' Season 2 Release Date, Plot Spoilers: Trailer video reveals rise of villains, Gotham cave different from comics

The second season of "Gotham" is still a month from now but fans are already given a generous heads up of what they should be expecting when the show returns.

The latest update is the one involving another iconic character from the Batman world, only this one isn't a person but rather a location that many are aware of. It can be fondly remembered that in the comics, Batman bases his vigilante operations from a secret underground headquarters known as the Batcave.

But the show "Gotham" is going to do a different take on it and is even careful not to refer to it as the Batcave. They are simply going to debut it as a cave that Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) and Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee) discovered beneath the Wayne manor. The Season 1 finale left off with Bruce and Alfred discovering the secret entrance to the cave.

As reported by IGN, Mazouz stated that the cave "changes everything in Bruce's life. It changes how he sees Alfred, the criminal side of Gotham, even how he sees his parents." He also confirmed that the cave isn't anything like Batman's lair in the comics. Instead, it contains details of Thomas Wayne's secret life and activities before he and his wife were killed. Zap2it was also able to exclusively get a tour around the cave with Mazouz. The site described the set as not as big as the Gotham City Police Department and is equipped with a desk, computer, telephone, family photos and mementos.

The season comeback is also dubbed as the "rise of villains" as seen in the promo release of "Gotham" which has finally hit the web. Latin Post reported that iconic villains like the Riddler, Two-Face, Catwoman and The Joker, who is expected to be Jerome (Cameron Monaghan), will appear during the upcoming season.

"Gotham" Season 2 premieres Sept. 21 on FOX.
