Green Bay Packers NFL Trade Rumors: 'Mutual Interest' Between Davon House and Packers
The Green Bay Packers have a lot to do this offseason. But after what happened last season, one of their top priorities is to be adding secondary depth. Apparently, the team is reaching out to a familiar face to help them address their secondary issues.
ESPN's Rob Demovsky has reported that there is "mutual interest" between the Packers and cornerback Davon House and a reunion is possible.
The Packers drafted House in the fourth round of the 2011 draft and he played with them for four seasons (2011–2014) before he left to sign a four-year, $24.5-million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015. His tenure with the Jaguars started well, but he was relegated to the bench last season when Jalen Ramsey and Prince Amukamara joined the team. House was released earlier this week after only two seasons with the team.
If the Jaguars don't want him, the Packers would gladly sign him. According to Demovsky, the team ranked 31st in passing yards allowed last year. That's second-worst in the entire league. House should take a load off the shoulders of Quinten Rollins, Damarious Randall and LaDarius Gunter.
"While the addition of Davon House would not come close to solving the team's defensive woes, it would provide depth and competition for Randell and Rollins. If one or both of the cornerbacks continue to struggle, Capers would have another option instead of just watching them give up yards," Joe Kiemen of Dairyland Express said in his article about House reuniting with the Packers.
A lot of observers believe this is a good match. He should provide a much-needed depth to their secondary and he will also get to play more with the Packers.
"The Packers' coaching staff that worked with House from 2011–2014 remains in place. So a reunion makes perfect sense, in a merger of team need and a player needing to get his career back on track," Lombardi Ave.'s Brad Berreman said in his piece.
