Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Davante Adams Suffers Concussion After Hard Hit Against Bears
The Green Bay Packers thoroughly outplayed the Chicago Bears during their matchup on Thursday night, but the celebration was much more subdued than normal after the game because one of their own was taken off the field on a stretcher earlier in the evening.
In the third quarter of the game, Packers wide receiver Davante Adams took a brutal helmet-to-helmet hit from Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan, and players from both teams knew right away he was badly hurt. Bears linebacker Pernell McPhee could even be seen waving frantically for trainers to rush onto the field.
It was such a vicious hit that Adams' mouth guard actually flew into the air as his jaw unclenched and he laid motionless on the field for several minutes while medical personnel tended to him.
Adams' teammates were obviously unhappy with the way Trevathan lowered his head for the hit, but fortunately, cooler heads prevailed.
The fourth-year pro was eventually taken to a local hospital in an ambulance so they could check for head and neck injuries along with a possible concussion. And after the game, Trevathan explained that the hit wasn't intentional. However, he will likely get fined for it and suspension is a possibility as well.
The good news is that Adams has already been discharged from the hospital and Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he's fine.
"Davante Adams is technically in the concussion protocol. He's home. Had a chance to visit with Davante briefly last night. He's rambunctious and ready to move forward. But yes, he's home and everything looks good," McCarthy stated, via ESPN.
Adams is placed in the league's concussion protocol, but he seems to have avoided serious injury as a result of the hit.
Football is a very physical sport and people can get seriously hurt. So it's good to hear that Adams is doing well.
