Greenville Shooting: Four Injured by Shooter in Bulletproof Vest (VIDEO)
A Greenville shooting has shocked locals after four people were shot in a gun attack at a local Walmart in the North Carolina town on Friday lunchtime.
The Greenville Walmart as well as the neighboring Kellum Law Firm were closed off as crime scenes by local police.
According to officials, a suspect is believed to have shot and injured a person who was sitting in a car outside the law firm just before noon.
The shooter then allegedly ran across five lanes of traffic and shot and injured three other people in the nearby Walmart parking lot.
Police officers quickly arrived on the scene and engaged with the shooter. After exchanging shots, the shooter was hit and injured and taken into custody. He was later taken to hospital where he was rushed into surgery for his wounds.
The four victims in the incident were also rushed to hospital where they are all receiving treatment and recovering.
Eye witnesses have described that the shooter was wearing a bulletproof vest and ran around carrying a rifle. He was dressed in all black and appeared to have planned his rampage.
Police Chief Chief Aden has said to local media that the weapon was a shotgun, and that the shooter was carrying a large arsenal of ammunition with him, suggesting he would have gone on and injured many more people had police not engaged with him as soon as they did.
A spokesperson for Walmart has said that no one was injured inside their store, and that the entire incident took place on the streets of Greenville and not in the store.
