'Grey's Anatomy' Season 10 Cast Members Stay On; Patrick Dempsey and Ellen Pompeo to Stay
Patrick Dempsey will be staying on the popular ABC medical drama "Grey's Anatomy" for at least two more years.
Early Friday TV Guide reported that Dempsey and costar Ellen Pompeo have both signed on for two more years with the show. This comes as a sigh of relief for Dempsey fans, as the actor had previously hinted at a possibility of leaving the show.
In an interview in late August with TV Line, Patrick Dempsey discussed whether or not he would leave "Grey's Anatomy" after the upcoming season.
"Everything is open to a conversation at this point. Grey's has been such a remarkable ride. Shonda [Rhimes] has been incredibly supportive. I enjoy Grey's more than ever in many ways. Our relationships have grown considerably. We've all matured over the last 10 years. So it would be a shame to end this," he said.
Dempsey leaving could be a direct result of Sandra Oh leaving the show. The two have worked together since the beginning, and her moving on could set a domino effect. When talking with TV Line, Dempsey discussed first learning about Sandra's departure.
"We found out right at the end of the table read for the 200th episode. She took the cast aside individually and said, 'I'm going to leave the show.' With any member of the show, especially the original cast, it's always sad to see someone leave," he added.
There is also some indication that Dempsey is not completely satisfied with "Grey's Anatomy" after working on it for so long.
In a recent interview with "Today," the actor said, "I'm not necessarily bored with the show. I'm incredibly grateful to have a show that's been on for 10 years. When you're on the show, coming up on 200 episodes, it's about surviving," he continued. "There's not a lot of homework that goes into it. You learn your lines and try to stay present and try not to get caught acting."
