'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 Episode 5 Recap: Meredith's Dinner Party in Hell

In the episode titled "Look Who's Coming to Dinner," fans of "Grey's Anatomy" saw Meredith's (Ellen Pompeo) supposedly warm and hospitable dinner party wrecked by a person who she sees as the one responsible for her late husband's death.

TV Line reported that Oct. 22's episode became one of the most-watched episodes in the history of the show ever since it premiered.

In the 250th episode, Meredith hosted a party for her friends, and while she tried to keep everything within herself, the pressure cooker broke free and her dinner party became hell for everyone present.

While it is understandable that Meredith is extremely upset about learning that her bestfriend Callie's (Sara Ramirez) new girlfriend is Penny (Samantha Sloyan), some fans said she should have saved her revelation for another time instead of the dinner.

On the other hand, Mer's loyal fans came to her rescue and seemed to overflow with joy when it was time for her big reveal.

As the dinner went on and it was mentioned that Penny will be the new resident to join the force at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, Meredith wasn't able to contemplate the news so she blurted out the epic words that saw thousands of retweets and favorites on Twitter: "Perfect Penny killed my husband."

Amelia (Caterina Scoresone) only added to the intense evening's catastrophe when she became upset that Meredith didn't tell her the truth about Penny before the unwelcome guest entered the house.

Probably the most emotional part of the episode was when fans saw Meredith shutting her best friend out. Callie, surprised and broken by the news, is now torn between girlfriend and best friend as Meredith continues to grieve the loss of Derek (Patrick Dempsey).

After all the awkwardness and silence following Mer's shocking revelation, fans speculated that there could be a chance for a reconciliation between Meredith and the person who failed to save her husband. Penny said she will be requesting to be transferred to another hospital, but out of the blue, Meredith said, "I'll see you Monday. Don't be late."

It is unclear if Meredith will set her anger aside or if she plans something for Penny as she enters residency, but until then, fans will just have to watch "Grey's Anatomy" every Thursday at 8 p.m. on ABC to see if something better is indeed at the end of the tunnel.
