'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 News: Will Penny Get Along with the Others?

With the mid-season finale of hit series "Grey's Anatomy" done, fans are anxious to know just what is in store for their characters.

The episode ended with the question of how Meredith, played by Ellen Pompeo, and Amelia, played by Caterina Scorsone, will get along after memories of Derek began driving them apart. Ever since the beginning of the season, the two have been trying to get along, despite the building tension between them.

The previous season brought the death of Derek, played by Patrick Dempsey. Because of that, his sister Amelia decided to move in with his wife Meredith. While they attempted to co-exist in their own homes, things began to interrupt when Penny, played by Samantha Sloyan, entered Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as a resident.

Both hold resentment toward Penny since she was the one who could not save Derek when he was rushed to the hospital after a car crash. Because of that, her presence brings back the tragic memory of Derek to both Amelia and Meredith .

According to Entertainment Weekly, Sloyan was able to share some details about how her character will engage with the rest of the people in Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital since she is tied to Derek's death. She said, "Dr. Derek Shepard was a husband, brother and friend to these people. Penny has to find a way to work side by side with them and gain their trust. I think right now."

Fans are wondering if she will be able to get along with both Meredith and Amelia despite the memories she brings back to the two. Sloyan also shared some insight about the two of them during an interview with TV Line. She said, "We put ourselves in Meredith and Amelia's shoes and, of course, here's this person who you view as responsible for the death of the love of your life. But then what is it like when they're in your home and looking at you?"

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 is expected to return sometime next year.
