'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 plot news: Meredith and her new life

Season 12 of "Grey's Anatomy" is expected to see a lot of changes, especially with Meredith Grey's new life. The previous season saw the death of Derek Shepherd, thus facing the exit of Patrick Dempsey from the show. According to Just Jared, there were photos of Ellen Pompeo in Los Angeles, where she shared details about the upcoming season.

Pompeo said, "It feels a lot different. Every time we lose someone big — when we lost Sandra Oh — when we lose anybody — it's a big shift. But a show that runs this long, you welcome those big changes. It makes everything feel so much different and that's what we're looking for in season 12. We're looking for things to not stay the same. They have to stay the same to some extent but you welcome change because that's what inspires the writers, that's what inspires the actors. Change is necessary for growth."

The production has been in progress for more than a month. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes also spoke to Hollywood Reporter about the season to come. She explained that the cast will experience a lighter mood, in order to take a break for the emotional season 11. She said that the table read had the entire cast laughing and applauding. It felt natural, much like the first season of the series. It will also explore a light side to Meredith's life as a widow.

Rhimes also mentioned that Meredith will not be the only one to see many changes. It was reported that the other character will also go through a journey of change, specifically the relationship of Alex and Jo. The previous season ended with the two purchasing a new place to live together. The season will focus on their situation and transition.

Grey's Anatomy season 12 will air on ABC on Sept. 24.
