'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 Episode 18: Nathan Comforts a Distressed Maggie

Maggie's (Kelly McCreary) world is falling apart in the upcoming episode of "Grey's Anatomy."

In the episode titled "Be Still, My Soul," the synopsis (according to TV Guide) reveals that the health of Maggie's mom, Diane (LaTanya Richardson Jackson), is not improving. She has cancer and her condition is steadily deteriorating. Maggie is a mess as she tries to deal with the setback, but she tries to be strong for Diane. Unfortunately, she will start losing hope when the doctors tell her she must prepare for the inevitable.

Diane's treatment is complicated. The doctors cannot seem to agree on the best medical procedure for her. In the promo, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) explains to Maggie that they are only hurting Diane with the current treatment she is having. Maggie is adamant, however. She is willing to experiment, hoping to find that one cure that her mother will respond to. Diane tells her daughter she does not want to die, making Maggie a crying mess.

As she struggles with her predicament, Maggie will get comfort from Nathan (Martin Henderson).

Maggie has always liked the New Zealander. It has not been long since she found out he has been dating her sister. Although Nathan does not wish to lead her on, he can see Maggie is teetering on the edge. In the teaser, he is shown hugging her. It will be interesting to see if this will affect the current bad blood between Maggie and Meredith. In the past episodes, it has become obvious that Meredith has fallen in love with Nathan.

Meanwhile, the tension between Richard (James Pickens Jr.) and Bailey (Chandra Wilson) is quickly escalating. He now knows that she was the one who fired him. Bailey had no choice but to let the foundation bring in Minnick (Marika Dominczyk) to supervise the Residency Program. Richard considers this as a betrayal, especially now that his department is in chaos.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
