GTA 6 Release Date Rumors: Development Already Underway? 'We've Got Some Ideas' - Rockstar

It has been almost a year since GTA V was released and fans are already seeking out a sequel in the works. The sequel is a possibility but expect it to come after at least a few years. Currently, Rockstar is busy improving the online port of GTA V, GTA Online which they announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this year. Even so, the company isn't dismissing the possibility of a sequel.

"We've got about 45 years worth of ideas we want to do. We don't know what GTA 6 will be, but we've got some ideas," Rockstar president Leslie Benzies said.

GTA VI is a real possibility but there are currently no confirmed reports or announcements of any kind about any developments taking place. It is still quite possible that Rockstar is already undergoing development for the sequel but with their time and resources gone into the improvement of GTA Online, it is understandable that Rockstar wouldn't want to make any announcements.

The company did state however, that they would like the GTA sequel to revisit all the cities of the previous GTA titles.

"Of course at some point we would like to have one big world containing all our cities and let the player fly between them and revisit their favorite areas. In that context re-imagining Vice City would be very interesting," Benzies said.

Benzies also said that Vice City was a setting that the studio would love to revisit in the next-gen consoles. He also said however that Vice City was as much about the era as it was the setting.

"Miami in the 1980s is so iconic it would feel strange to revisit the city in a different time period," Benzies said.

Some fans speculated that the sequel could make a return to its roots and take place in London, as it was first set in the second GTA game in 1999 called Grand Theft Auto: London 1969.

GTA V writer, Dan Houser, said that the sequel won't be taking place in London but it might explore other countries. He also said that the sequel could be seeing a female lead character if the setting and situation deemed fit.

"In the future, could we do a game with a lead female character? Of course, we just haven't found the right game for it yet, but it's one of the things that we always think about," Houser said.
