'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Movie News: Mantis To Be Introduced In The Movie?

The roster of stars who will be part of the sequel of "Guardians of the Galaxy" remains unknown at this point in time, but it's only a matter of days before their identities will be revealed. At least, if it's of any consolation, "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn confirmed that there is a new female character who will be introduced in the sequel.

Screen Rant reported that the revelation was made by the director via a Q&A video on his Facebook account. While he confirmed that the moviegoers will see a new female character in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," the information on what role she will play and who she is has been withheld.

Nonetheless, despite his decision to keep the identity of the actress who'll be joining the movie under wraps for now, Gunn could not hold in his excitement in working with her as he described her as the "most awesome and easiest person" to cast for a role.

"She blew me the f*** away. She's amazing, and I can't wait to share her with the world," he declared.

As Gunn chooses to keep mum on the new character and the actress to breathe life to her, there are speculations that the character the director was referring to is actually Mantis, and Canadian actress Pom Klementieff will supposedly have the honor of playing her big screen incarnation.

Geek noted in one of its scoops on "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" that in the comic book version of Mantis, the character has links to the Celestials, Kree cults, and the Guardians themselves. At one point, she even quickened Groot's growth when his body reanimated from a twig.

Apart from the new members of the cast, the lead stars of the movie franchise are set to reprise their roles in the sequel. Chris Pratt will still play the role of Star-Lord Peter Quill. Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel will lend their voices anew to Rocket and Groot, respectively. Zoe Saldana will still don the costume of Gamora and Dave Bautista will still assume the role of Drax. Michael Rooker and Karen Gillan are also still a part of the movie and they'll be playing their previous respective roles, Yondu and Nebula.

The sequel is scheduled to hit the theaters on May 5, 2017.
