'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2' News: Vin Diesel Asks for a Gigantic Groot
As the cast and crew of "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" prep for pre-production, Vin Diesel has some news for fans of the most dangerous yet most admirable member of the Guardians.
The "Last Witch Hunter" had a short chat with IGN and he says fans might get to see a gigantic version of his Groot in the sequel. "I've talked to James Gunn about that. I can't give it away but I would love to see gigantic Groot," he says.
In the first movie, the mighty Groot had to sacrifice his life in exchange for the lives of his team. Come the finale, a cute, miniature baby Groot was seen, giving hope that an interesting twist will be seen of the woody hero in the sequel.
Diesel says he's looking forward to throwing his character into a forest to see how large of an area he will consume when the trees are all down. It is known among Marvel fans that New York City is home to the many heroes born in the realm, and for Diesel, it might be a good idea to give Groot some action in the metro. "Imagine throwing him into Central Park in New York City. I just want to see Giant Groot," he says.
Movie News Guide suggests that the "Fast and Furious" actor may have acquired inspiration from the animated crossover cartoon that featured the "Avengers" and the "Guardians."
The outlet notes that in the cartoon, Groot clashed with the indomitable Hulk, and when he had the chance to get a hold of the green monster, he smashed the raging giant on the ground.
While it is unclear if director James Gunn is considering Diesel's request, the prod team is pretty confident that whatever they come up with in terms of Groot's size and story line, he will still be the treasured piece of wood that fans have come to love.
"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
