'Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2' Rumors: Villain Spot Open as Pom Klementieff Joins Cast

Fans of the hit movie "Guardians of the Galaxy" may be interested to audition for a villain role in the sequel as rumor has it that a villain spot has been left open after a popular star turned down the offer.

Classicalite says Marvel wanted Matthew McConaughey for the villain role, but the "Interstellar" actor turned the offer down. The outlet notes that McConaughey is known for his successful performances in "The Lincoln Lawyer" and "Magic Mike." McConaughey also starred in the film adaptation of John Grisham's "A Time to Kill."

Many fans were disappointed when the news first surfaced as they expected to see an epic performance from the Hollywood actor. On the other hand, the cast and crew of "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" are still optimistic and looking forward to casting a decorated actor for the role.

Meanwhile, another actress will be joining the cast for the sequel. According to Deadline, Marvel has acquired Pom Klementieff, a French actress known for her role in the remake of "Oldboy."

While it is unclear how Klementieff's role will affect the Guardians, it has been recently confirmed that she will be playing Mantis, the half-Vietnamese, half-German daughter of Libra. Mantis was first introduced in the "Avengers" franchise as a martial arts expert who holds psychic abilities and is acquainted with the Kree race called Priests of Pama. She was abandoned by her father and trained among the militaristic alien race to become a fighter. However, her memories were wiped out and she had to live the normal human life.

The outlet further details that Mantis will appear as some sort of a ship's counselor and will be closely tied to Thanos. She has appeared in some of the pages of the Guardians, with her most notable performance in the "Secret Invasion" crossover.

Klementieff's Mantis is seen to play a key role as she joins the team in "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2." The movie will release on May 5, 2017.
