Guy Makes YouTube Ad For A Used 1996 Honda Accord; eBay Listing Now At $100,000
Writer and director Max Lanman recently uploaded a video on YouTube to help sell his fiancée's car. The commercial features a used, but loved 1996 Honda Accord, and has since raised more than a thousand dollars in an eBay bid.
Tech Times lauded the commercial and said that it might be better than some of the car advertisements that people were used to seeing. The commercial itself is just a little over a minute long, and it features some of the unexpected uses of the 1996 Honda Accord, which can only be done by someone who has had a bond with it.
The video opens with a gentle narration of events, with Lanman's fiancée using the trunk of the car to hold up the mirror. She also straps in a coffee maker on the passenger seat, and at some point, pours herself a cup. Viewers lauded the video, as it was cinematically a joy to watch. The background music also created a sense of sentimentality, which Lanman has said was very true for his fiancée, who took two years to finally decide to let it go.
"It has been shocking," Lanman told SFGATE of the swift public response to the ad. "We had high hopes for it; we could dream it would go viral or serve as a calling card for commercial or comedy work, but this has completely shattered expectations. It just dawned on me that it would be funny to make a high-end commercial for a crappy car."
The bid started off at $499, and since it has gone viral, the 1996 Honda Accord is now sitting at more than $100,000. The YouTube ad itself received an astounding 3.3 million views. Considering that the car has clocked in at 141,095 miles on the odometer, needless to say, that Lanman did a good job for a used car commercial.
