'Half Life 3' Release Date, News: Third Sequel Development Put On Hold To Give Way for 'Left 4 Dead 3'

For those who are hankering for information about the release date of Valve's purported third sequel to its massively-popular first-person shooter video game "Half Life," the "Half Life 3," this may come as disheartening news.

A new report from MasterHerald.com cited a slew of revelations coming from a former Valve employee. The ex-personnel says the company is currently "not in active development" for "Half Life 3." The reason behind it is the studio is putting more priority into the development of its zombie shooter game "Left 4 Dead 3," which they plan to release first.

The other reason pointed out by the insider is that Valve is quite satisfied with the earnings it is currently raking in for its popular MOBA game "Dota 2" as well as Half Life's companion, "Counterstrike," on its own gaming platform (Steam).

The source went on to claim that HL "is actually being considered" for an outing date in the "fourth quarter of 2017 or in the first quarter of 2018."

This timeline suggests that L4D 3 will be released in early 2017 and will be followed thereafter by the aforementioned FPS game. Both games, according to the informant, are slated to arrive for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Master Herald, meanwhile, cited reports claiming that "Half Life 3" is only being attended by "10 people" which gives it a snail-like progress rate. The people who were supposedly working on the title were being reassigned on other game projects which might include the "Left 4 Dead" sequel.

To seemingly pacify the anxious fans, related reports suggest that that a spinoff "Half Life" game might come out soon. The game, which was called "Lost Squad," explores what happened to Barney Calhoun after "Half Life 2."

"Lost Squad extends the award-winning Half-Life universe allowing to look at familliar events through the eyes of Barney Calhoun and the gameplay with ability to destroy enviroments, play with friends in co-op mode, fight newly-spawned creatures and much more," the game's description in Steam reads.
