'Halo 5: Guardians' January Update, Infinity's Armory, Goes Live

The "Halo 5: Guardians" January update is here. Infinity's Armory comes with new maps, armor sets, Legendary weapon, and more.

Infinity's Armory is based on the most powerful vessel of the UNSC, the UNSC Infinity. With this DLC, developer 343 Industries aims to deliver more than 50 new REQs worthy of UNSC Infinity. Here are the highlights.

Infinity's Armory brings two new maps into the game. The new Arena map is Riptide, while the new Warzone Assault map is Urban.

Riptide is described as having "winding routes of steel and sand" and "weathered structures." The challenge of this new map for Guardians lies in "controlling the top catwalks" so they can "analyze, pinpoint, and track down the enemy's location." On the other hand, Urban is an open map that offers players many sightlines.

New weapons

"Halo 5's" January update also brings with it one Legendary, one uncommon, and one rare weapon.

The Legendary weapon is the "Halo 2" Battle Rifle, a "very accurate" shooter that has a relative high rate of fire. It's useful as an all-around infantry weapon. It can be deployed in Warzone but can also be unlocked in Forge for players recreating "Halo 2" maps.

New Carbine REQs are also available, the uncommon Rain of Oblivion and the rare Suban. The former has been upgraded to be fully automatic and with an extended magazine, while the latter can pierce armors with its Needler shards.

New armor set

The Achilles Armor set is one of the three that's been teased previously. It consists of an armor and a helmet.

The armor features "a shell of hyperdense steel fueled by starfire." Players must be Level 3 in all Kill Commendations to receive this new armor set. Meanwhile, the helmet will be available to players who are Level 5 in all Kill Commendations.

New assassinations

A couple of new assassinations have been introduced as well. There's the rare Wind Up and the ultra rare Stop Stabbing Yourself. Those interested can view them in the video below.

These are only part of the update. The full patch notes can be read at HaloWaypoint.

"Halo 5" Infinity's Armory is a free expansion that will automatically download and install on the Xbox One. It's the third free DLC that developer 343 Industries has released to the game, joining December's The Cartographer's Gift and November's Battle of Shadow and Light. More new content should be added at least until the summer.
