Halo 5 Guardians Release Date: Fans Have to Wait Until 2015, Exact Date Remains Mystery

The much awaited sequel to Halo 4 by Microsoft initially was prepped for a Beta-version to be released by the end of the year, and now it seems that that date for the game has been pushed back to 2015.

Microsoft first teased about the Halo 5: Guardians back in the Electronic Entertainment Expo of 2013 and confirmed in January 2014 about a planned end of the year release for the Beta-version. 343 Industries, the studio in charge of the game, has since confirmed that the game definitely won't be coming out until 2015.

Taking a look at the Microsoft Store, the title's release date does seem to have been pushed to 2015. The store lists the game at $60 with a Dec. 31, 2015 release date. The date is only a placeholder until 343 Industries can officially announce a definite release date.

The sequel is revealed to take place after the events of Halo 4, with Master Chief defeating Didact, Cortana's loss, and then reporting back to UNSC. The cover art that was revealed contained a blue-visored Spartan, with a mirror image of Master Chief below him.

Initially, this character was thought to be a robot version of Cortana or Sarah Palmer but 343 Industries' Executive Producer Josh Holmes has dispelled those rumors.

"For everyone speculating about the mysterious Spartan in Halo 5: Guardians, he's not Palmer (or Cortana!). He's a NEW character," Holmes tweeted with a smiley and a Halo hashtag.

The studio has also promised that Halo 5 will be bigger than Halo 4 and aims to unlock the full potential of the Halo franchise and universe with Halo's first Xbox One title.
