'Halo 5: Guardians' to Receive Infection Mode

Developer 343 Industries is bringing back a fan-favorite mode to "Halo 5: Guardians." The returning mode is Infection, which is the game's own version of a zombie multiplayer mode.

The developer showed off a sneak peek at the new "Halo 5's" Infection mode during a recent livestream event. The livestream discussed the game's Ghosts of Meridian update, which just went live on April 7.

The upcoming Infection mode will divide the players into a normal team and a zombie team. The zombies will try to infect the other uninfected players, thus adding to their ranks. Meanwhile, the uninfected players will try to stay that way for as long as they can. A teaser trailer (below) for the new mode can be viewed below.

The new Infection mode will become available once the Memories of Reach update rolls out, according to Eurogamer. Memories of Reach is expected to release later this year. Another upcoming update is the free DLC pack Hog Wild.

The fan-favorite zombie-themed mode was featured in "Halo 3" and "Halo Reach" but was missing in "Halo 4." Now it makes a comeback, along with other fan favorite and classic "Halo" modes, Warzone Firefight and Grifball. The latter is already available, thanks to a previous update, while the latter will be arriving in the game sometime in the future. 343 Industries previously said Warzone Firefight will have "the most on-screen enemies in the history of the franchise."

While waiting for "Halo 5's" Infection mode and these other updates, players can check out Ghosts of Meridian. It's the fifth free update since the game released in October last year. The previous updates include November's The Battle of Shadow and Light, December's Cartographer's Gift, January's Infinity's Armor, and February's Hammer Storm. 343 Industries tries to release an update every month, but so far has missed rolling out an update for March.
