'Halo 6' News, Update: 'Halo 5' Sequel Not Coming This Year
"Halo 6" is not coming in 2017. In fact, no new game from the franchise will be released this year, as confirmed by Xbox head Phil Spencer.
He did so in the latest episode of the IGN Unlocked podcast, in which he expressed excitement about what the company has in store for its patrons.
"It's going to be an interesting year for us because we don't have Gears, we don't have a Halo first-person shooter game," Spencer revealed.
It is no surprise that "Halo 6" is not coming this year considering that "Halo 5" was just released in 2015. Based on Microsoft's release history, it would take at least three years for a new installment to come out.
This makes a 2018 launch for "Halo 6" possible. However, at the moment, there is no word from Microsoft as to when they plan to bring it out into the open.
Spencer did suggest that playing "Halo 6" on the company's next-generation console, the Xbox Project Scorpio, will be a great experience.
"I am very confident in the quality that I've seen from the games that we're launching and how they look on Scorpio," the Microsoft executive said.
"When people see games on Scorpio, for those that are close to the detail, they're going to see a demonstrable difference between that and the games that they're playing now — on any console. I know that content has to be the thing that we use to demonstrate the capability of the box," he went on to say.
The Xbox Project Scorpio is set for release holiday this year. It is expected that "Halo 6" will be playable on the console as well as on the Xbox One.
More importantly, "Halo 6" is reportedly lined up for a PC release, making it the first in the first-person shooter franchise to hit the platform.
