Hathaway's Ex Pardon Plea: Actress' Ex-Boyfriend Wants Forgiveness From President
Anne Hathaway may be living the American Dream right now, following her most recent Oscar win- but life has been less dreamy for her ex, Raffaello Follieri.
Follieri allegedly "misses America" and is looking for ways to put his life back together after he his arrest and five year prison term for money laundering. Follieri, who dated Hathaway for nearly four years, was convicted in 2008 for defrauding investors out of millions of dollars.
"When you are 25 years old and you have a company growing very fast, you get carried away in situation," Follieri said of his arrest during a 2012 Nightline interview. "At the time, my life was pretty good. I had a girl that I love. My business was going well. ... I thought that was the American dream. But it was not so long later that everything fall apart."
Hathaway broke up with Follieri after she discovered the truth about his business. After he was released from prison, Follieri said he had no interest in clearing his name. But it now appears that Hathaway's ex has had a change of heart.
"He misses America, and when he gets enough money he wants to lobby for a presidential pardon," a source told The New York Post. The businessman is allegedly attempting to buy an "energy company in Switzerland" according to the source, but is still having difficulties.
Despite his hardships, Follieri said last year that he was happy for Hathaway and her engagement to Adam Schulman.
"I think when somebody spends four and a half years with another person means that -- it was something that was working for us ... but life goes in different direction that we cannot control," he told Nightline.
Having a prominent girlfriend, however, wouldn't hurt Follieri's cause.
"He must be dying that he's missing the limelight," the source told the Post.
