'Hawaii Five-0' Season 8 Premiere, Spoilers: Steve and Danny Become New Business Partners
The vibe on "Hawaii Five-0" will feel different for season 8 because of the cast changes. Showrunner Peter M. Lenkov confirmed that the premiere will be an emotional one as the dynamic shifts.
Amid what's going on, with the team losing Kono (Grace Park) and Chin (Daniel Dae Kim) while gaining three new members, the partnership between Steve (Alex O' Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) will remain solid in season 8. However, their dynamics will slightly change because the two lead characters will be working on a side project together.
"A big part of last year and this year is talking about people's legacies and what they leave behind, and they have talked about going into business together," Lenkov hinted in his interview with TV Line. "So they start this side project that is a lot of fun for them to be doing."
Lenkov also told Entertainment Weekly that this new venture hatched following Steve's near-death experience last season when he suffered radiation poisoning. It changed his outlook on life and conditioned him to plan for retirement.
The new business partnership, however, will have its birthing pains. Steve and Danny will experience different kinds of conflicts that will have nothing to do with their work in the Five-0 team. But Lenkov also hinted that this business partnership might fail even before it takes off.
"It's just one hurdle after another," the showrunner said.
Meanwhile, the introduction of the new series regulars on "Hawaii Five-0" will happen immediately in season 8's premiere episode. Meaghan Rath will play Tani Rey, a lifeguard, and a Police Academy dropout, while Beulah Koale will play Junior Reigns, a former Navy SEALS.
Anthony Dale, on the other hand, will permanently join the cast as Adam Noshimuri. His character appeared semi-regularly on "Hawaii Five-0" since season 2 as a consultant and confidante. Steve will recruit him in the team after having worked with him several times in the past.
"Hawaii Five-0" season 8 will premiere on Friday, Sept. 29, at 9:00 p.m. EST on CBS.
